Minecraft-makers cancel film inspired by game

Mojang, the Minecraft maker, has intervened to stop the making of a film in the game's block built world.

The creators of Birth of a Man had launched an appeal on Kickstarter for $600,000 (PS366,000) to finance the production of the film.

It was canceled by its creator only a few days after it was launched.

Markuss Persson, founder of Mojang Later, he posted an update on Twitter explaining why the company was closing down. Minecraft server hosting

"We don't allow [half-a-million-dollar Kickstarter projects] based on our [intellectual property] without any deals in place," wrote Mr Persson, also known as Notch, in a tweet.

According to some, the message refers to the fact that Mojang and the film makers did not agree to use the same blocks, items, and other elements as in the game. The film was set to be released on YouTube in 2014.

A teaser video was posted on the Kickstarter project page. It showcased concept footage that combined live action with landscapes, creatures and weapons.

Brandon Laatsch, the director of the short film stated that he's been working on the idea for the idea of a Minecraft movie for more than 12 years.

He added that he and the other gamers who participated in the project hoped the final film would be better than the films based on well-known video games.

In the teaser video he stated that Minecraft was the ideal video game to adapt to a movie.

"The reason is that it doesn't have a protagonist and doesn't have a plot, which to me is a big benefit because we can create our own original story."

Mr. Laatsch has not yet made a statement on the reasons behind the project's demise or whether it will be revived when Mojang has negotiated to license its intellectual property. Minecraft server hosting
