Have you ever wondered how the tennis ball launcher can deliver a perfect serve every single time while practicing your swing? Check out the next image for a closer look at the inside of the tennis ball launcher.



The launcher can fire as long it has electricity and enough tennis balls. To do this, it uses air pressure. Continue reading to learn more about where this pressure comes from.



The launcher's power is switched on and an electric fan draws air from the outside into its canister. The air flows through a protective screen and foam. These screens protect the fan motor against debris.



The air flows up through the hopper.



The air leaves the barrel and moves out of the hopper.



Let's add tennis balls.



An electric motor keeps the balls moving in the hopper.



The motor turns a rotor in the hopper. As the rotor turns, it rolls the balls through a hole one at a time. Each ball falls into a plastic tube that runs through a canister.



The ball rolls through a tube until it reaches the detent, a rubbery ring made of soft rubber. The detent causes the ball to seal off the end of the tube and forces a plastic flap to cover the entrance to the tube. Now, air pressure starts to build.

The ball will fly down the barrel if the air pressure behind it exceeds that of the detent. With this pressure eliminated in the tube, the flap at the entrance falls back down. The process begins again when another ball falls into the tube. This pneumatic design can be used to make T-shirts, confetti launchers, and special effects such flying debris or fake winter.
