Minecraft is such a popular cultural phenomenon that it was planned to have its own convention of three days in September, complete with interactive exhibits, co-op and competitive gameplay live entertainment, panels and merchandise. Tickets for the first Minecraft Festival in Orlando will be available this week. ReedPop is the company that also hosts New York Comic Con (NYC) and San Diego Comic Con (SDCC) announced that the convention had been delayed for a whole year because of the coronavirus epidemic. The event was still months away and the epidemic might be solved at that point, the co-organizers, producers and exhibitors are at a crossroads when it comes to planning the event and ensuring an enjoyable experience. Minecraft Live will continue to be available for gamers. The live stream will be as scheduled, and will showcase the latest Minecraft news as well as behind-the-scenes look at upcoming developments.

This news comes as no surprise considering the number of events and conventions which have been cancelled or postponed because of coronavirus concerns. It's a bit odd that ReedPop and Mojang Minecraft's developers announced the convention less than one week ago, when the COVID-19 virus was well-known. To their credit, however it was a wise decision to cancel the event before tickets went to sale and people had booked travel arrangements -- many headaches were likely saved by taking preventive action.
