In 2020 the developers made an announcement about an important change to Minecraft: Java Edition, since players will soon be required to swap from an account with a Mojang account to an Microsoft account in order to keep playing. Although it's still an incredibly long time to wait, the developers have confirmed the date and issued the final call for account migration.



You will no longer be able to play Minecraft: Java Edition if you have an account with Mojang account. The developers want all users to switch to Microsoft accounts to "improved security and player security" They're also entice gamers to switch by offering free Minecraft capes.
