Trading Stock:

Mojang introduced the fantastic concept of 'Supply & Demand in Mojang 1.14. This means that if a transaction is done too often, not only will the villager run short of inventory, but also prices (the quantity of items/emeralds you need to give) will increase. Trades can be made up to four times before stock runs out. Villagers will replenish their stock twice per day. The cost of an item can decrease if it isn't traded.

Unlocking Trades:

Both the villager and player gain experience when they trade. As the villager's skill level increases to a certain level, the next level of trades can be unlocked. There are five levels of trades for each villager, which unlocks more expensive items. The level of the villager can be displayed by a color-coded badge that is worn on their clothing. It could range from Novice (Stone) and Apprentice (Iron), Journeyman/Gold), Expert(Emerald) up to Master(Diamond).

Wandering Trader

It might seem odd however, it is the truth that there is a villager who is different from the other villagers. The Wandering Trader is a passive Mob that appears randomly around the world, with seemingly no pattern. When it does appear it comes with two trading llamas with leashes, which are basically normal llamas, but with a cosmetic change. Another peculiarity of this Villager is that it doesn't have trading levels, meaning that the trades that you've rolled with him are the ones you're stuck with. Don't worry, as his trades will reset the next time he appears.

The Wandering Trader's trades are often obscure and difficult to locate. Although not particularly impressive or powerful, they are still valuable. The Wandering Trader will disappear after 40-60 minutes.

Popularity:

As an individual player, you are able to enjoy a level of popularity. This is reduced by taking negative actions, such as attacking villager and gaining popularity by trading frequently or treating zombie villagers. Negative actions can raise prices while positive ones can decrease them.

Let's say that Illagers attack your village without warning. You happen to be nearby and you are able to fend off the attack. You will be rewarded with the 'Hero of the Village" status effect, which will also reduce trade costs (except for trades that cost 1 Emerald).
